Join the Group
We are always looking for talented and enthusiastic researchers. If you are interested in joining our group, please contact Dr Yang Xu (y.xu.1@ucl.ac.uk) directly to discuss funding options. We welcome researchers from any background, gender, and ethnicity, and it is our goal to build a diverse, friendly and supportive environment in which everyone can enjoy their research experience and gain skills for future careers.
Postdoc Opportunities
Postdoc positions available in the group will be advertized here and on the UCL Chemistry website. Postdoc fellowships can also be obtained from many external funding sources, including EPSRC Postdoctoral Fellowship, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship, Newton International Fellowship, Ramsay Trust Memorial Fellowship, and Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship. Interested candidates should contact Dr Yang Xu with a 2-page CV to discuss fellowship opportunities and projects.
We are looking for motivated researcheres working in the areas of battery materials and characterizations, as well as new battery chemistries and electrochemical mechanisms, to support their applications to the Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme. Potential candidates can directly contact Dr Xu using the email at the top of the page. More information about the scheme can be found on this webpage.
PhD Opportunities
PhD positions available in the group will be advertized here and on the UCL Chemistry Studentships website. UCL internal PhD studentships can be found here including Research Excellence Scholarship and UCL EPSRC DTP Studentship. External PhD studentships are from various funding routes including Center for Doctoral Training in the Advanced Characterization of Materials (CDT-ACM), Commonwealth Scholarships, Newton PhD Programe, and Marshall Scholarships. Studentships can be dependent on your country of origin. Interested candidates should contact Dr Yang Xu with a 2-page CV to discuss studentship opportunities and projects.
MSci and MSc Projects
We supervise 1-2 MSci projects and 2-3 MSc projects each year. Project outlines are provided to master’s students before project allocations. Interested students are welcome to send queries to the email address given at the top of this webpage.
Undergraduate Summer Projects
We host undergraduate students for a short 6-8 week summer research project through fully funded routes such as MAPS Summer Research Internships (open to undergraduate students in the MAPS faculty; search “Maths & Phys Sci Res Interships” on Moodle for details) and RSC Undergraduate Research Bursaries. Undergraduates will receive the experience of real research including carrying out lab work and getting trained for battery electrode preparation, battery cell assembly, and electrochemical techniques to assess battery cell performance. Interested students should contact Dr Yang Xu to discuss potential projects.
